Lilies - How they grow
Lilies never stop growing. Even in winter the bulb is busy forming the new stem in its very heart. Here is a record of one season in the lily growing world.

More on Seedlings Lily seedlings look a little like grass when they first appear. And each seedling produces one first (baby) leaf.Often these baby leaves are nothing like what the plant will produce from then on. Subsequent lily leaves look less 'grass' like. |

My containers will continue to 'live' in the window sill over Winter. Conditions will be too harsh outside and I want them to grow as much as possible, to get that head start in Spring. Seedlings I started last Spring, have, at the beginning of this month, been transplanted into bigger pots and placed in a sheltered area in the garden. I tell myself this has to be temporary because the dog is bound to make a dash through there and scatter the lot! I need to find a more 'secure' place. |

Mature bulbs are planted in Autumn in the open ground. And then the cycle of the season begins again. Spring brings us back to the first page showing the emerging lilies. Such an exciting time! |
